A Well Parent Raises a Well Child

These days, conversations around mental health are finally gaining the attention they deserve and Cerene Prince, LCSW, stands as a voice of both compassion and action on this topic. As the founder and clinical director of Orchard Blue Counseling Services, Cerene has dedicated her life’s work to nurturing the emotional well-being of children, strengthening families, and empowering communities through culturally responsive care.

With over two decades of experience serving children and families across the U.S. and the Caribbean, Cerene brings not only clinical expertise, but a deep understanding of how culture, identity, and environment shape our mental and emotional lives. Her approach to care is both evidence-based and human-centered ensuring that her clients receives care that is personalized, affirming, and transformative.

At the heart of her work is a guiding belief: “A well parent raises a well child.” This philosophy has become both the cornerstone of Cerene’s mission and a pillar within her business. Through therapy, workshops, and parent coaching, Cerene helps caregivers develop practical tools and self-care practices that promote balance, connection, and resilience, which create a foundation for  healthy families

“In my professional experience, I often witnessed poor culturally responsive care and lack of mental health services for children and teens… I wanted to change that.” Cerene shares.

From offering sliding-scale therapy  services to hosting free psychoeducational workshops, Orchard Blue Counseling was born out of a desire to make quality mental health care accessible to underserved communities.

Today, Orchard Blue Counseling provides individual and family therapy, parent-wellness programs, and professional development workshops across New York, New Jersey, and Florida with wellness services extending nationwide. The practice also partners with schools and organizations to ensure that  mental health support reaches as many families as possible.

Even amidst challenges, Cerene’s leadership remains grounded in resilience. When the 2024 Change Healthcare cyberattack left her practice without income for six months, she didn’t give up. Instead, she turned adversity into growth by joining a coaching program that helped her strengthen her business vision, pivoting and navigating the crisis with renewed purpose.

This was devastating as we continued to deliver patient mental health care without reimbursement… It taught me the importance of preparation, community, and staying aligned with my values”

Looking ahead, Cerene envisions expanding Orchard Blue into a holistic wellness center that offers mental health therapy, medication management, naturopathic treatments, and wellness products such as books, teas, and candles. She also plans to author a parenting book inspired by her well-known adage, “A well parent raises a well child,” alongside another title aimed at guiding parents through the challenges of adolescence.

For Cerene, entrepreneurship is not about status, it’s about service. “The most rewarding part is seeing how our work transforms the lives of individuals and families we’ve supported, and knowing that I have the freedom to design culturally responsive services without limitation,” she shares.

When asked what advice she would give aspiring entrepreneurs, her words were grounded: “Consult with other business owners, invest in knowledge whether a business coach, attending webinars,
and connect with other similar business owners who see you as business-companion, not competition.

And perhaps her most powerful lesson learned along the way: “Not all business is good business. It’s okay to say no to opportunities that don’t align with your vision.”

In every sense, Cerene Prince embodies the strength, wisdom, and heart it takes to transform not just a business, but a community. Through Orchard Blue Counseling, she reminds us that healing begins with care and that when parents thrive, children, families, and entire communities do too.
