Work Less, Earn More

Mel Brandt’s Blueprint for a Business Built Around Freedom

Mel didn’t set out to build a business. She set out to prove something to her kids.

“I could have had an amazing life but couldn’t be bothered doing the work or show them what that life looked like and who I had to become to create it,” is how the Australian entrepreneur, now based in Bali, describes the fork in the road that led her here. She was a single mum with, in her words, two choices. She picked the one that meant becoming someone new.

Mel Brandt - Work Less Earn More

That decision became Lifestyle Industries, a business helping coaches, consultants, service providers, and course creators build systems and visibility around the life they actually want — not the other way around. Alongside it, Mel co-founded Pro Lead Sniper, an AI-powered outreach and lead-generation tool for service businesses.

What Mel’s business is really selling isn’t marketing tactics or funnels. It’s a rejection of the idea that success and lifestyle have to be traded against each other.

That belief didn’t come from a business book. It came from her own history. Mel describes coming from a broken home and a background of abuse . The kind of start that could easily have kept her small. Instead, she says, “I used my story to fuel my fire, not stay a victim.” She hears often that her willingness to talk about it openly is what gives other people permission to make their own leap.

The Six-Figure Trap

Not every lesson in Mel’s story is about triumph. Some are about catching herself before a mistake became permanent.

Early on, she chased six-figure months the way most people are told to. She got there  and it nearly broke her. “I needed to understand that money wasn’t what I was chasing — lifestyle and freedom was,” she says. It’s a mindset she now builds her entire business philosophy around, and one of the more counterintuitive things she tells clients: the number isn’t the goal. The life underneath the number is.

The proof, for her, is in her own week. “I work less now than ever, yet earn more,” she says. A result she still finds herself surprised by.

Mel is blunt about the gap between what people see and what actually happens behind a business that’s working. “People don’t see the tears, the stress, and the moments you don’t have the answers,” she says. What matters, in her view, isn’t avoiding those moments — it’s what you do inside them. Brands that stop and start every time things get hard, she argues, telegraph that instability to everyone watching, whether they say it out loud or not.

She credits her own resilience less to talent and more to a shift in obsession. Plenty of plans have gone sideways along the way, she admits, but she trained herself to get “obsessed with the process of ‘what next’ rather than focusing on what didn’t work.” Every time, a solution turned up, it was not because she was lucky, but because she kept looking for one.

No Room for the Herd

If there’s a throughline in Mel’s advice, it’s a refusal to blend in. She tells other women stepping into entrepreneurship to “start as you mean to finish” and to hold a vision of where they’re headed long before the evidence catches up. “You need to hold the vision far earlier than you actually see it,” she says.

That same instinct shaped one of the bigger unlearnings of her career: the pull to copy what everyone else in her space was doing.

“You must stand out and find your edge,” she says. Advice that feels less like generic brand wisdom and more like something she had to learn the hard way, by watching what blending in cost her.

It also supports a common observation about many industries today. “Too many people are trying to teach what they’ve never achieved,” she says. A  line aimed squarely at an industry she’s watched get crowded with advice-givers short on actual results.

Mel’s most recent milestone is a project she recently developed and what she describes as a world class lead generation software built from Instagram, a project she says she’s especially proud of.

Underneath the tools and the systems, though, the motivation hasn’t changed since the day she made her choice as a single mum.

Her kids remain her greatest source of drive. In addition to that source, she points to the people who once told her she couldn’t .

“The universe has seen and heard things you haven’t, therefore has removed people that can’t go where you are headed.”

For Mel, that’s not just another quote. It’s closer to a mission statement  for her business, and for the life she rebuilt in order to get here.
