MsSauce: Creating Culture and Comfort with Cuisine
When you meet Ms Sauce, you realize food is not just about flavor to her. It’s about
memory, culture, creativity, and connection. Through her business, MsSauce Plates, she has created something that feels deeply personal and feeds communities across Long Island and New York City with dishes based in Caribbean and Southern influence.
What started as passion inside the kitchen slowly became something much larger. While balancing a career, motherhood, and entrepreneurship, MsSauce built a brand centered around what she calls “culture and comfort with cuisine.” Her catering experiences are designed to go beyond a single plate. Appetizers, entrées, desserts, tropical beverages, and mobile treat bars all come together as part of what she describes as a “saucy experience.”

The inspiration behind the business traces through generations and across cultures. Her mother’s family comes from Curaçao. Her father’s side carries Southern roots. Childhood memories of sweet potato pie, boiled chicken, saltfish fritters, griot, and djon djon rice all shaped the flavors she now brings into her work. Instead of separating those influences, she found a way to blend them together naturally into something uniquely her own.
MsSauce describes herself as a mother, poet, visionary, philanthropist, PTA mom, and chef, and each part of her identity shows up in her work. Whether donating meals to causes close to her heart, building vibrant food displays, experimenting with desserts, or
creating content late into the night after her children fall asleep, she continues to shape her business through dedication, imagination, and love for what she does. Much of the work, however, happens quietly behind the scenes. Customers may see polished catering displays and colorful social media content, but they do not always see the exhaustion that comes with building a business while raising three children and maintaining a full-time career. Some nights stretch past 2 a.m. editing videos, testing recipes, or preparing for events. Other moments happen with cooking dough in hand while children’s cartoons play in the background. That balance between ambition and motherhood has become part of the foundation behind the brand.

Building the Brand as a Business
Like many entrepreneurs in food service, MsSauce quickly learned that passion alone is not enough. One of the biggest surprises was understanding how difficult it could be simply to build a legitimate business correctly. Licensing, insurance, permits, paperwork, inspections, and startup costs became lessons in patience and persistence. Rather than taking shortcuts, she committed herself fully to doing things the right way, believing that strong foundations create long-term success.
MsSauce also expressed how relationships were one of the greatest lessons in her entrepreneurial journey. She believes opportunities are often built through conversation, community, and reputation long before contracts are signed. One introduction or handshake can shift everything.
To maintain her brand, her focus is not just the food itself, but the energy surrounding it. Her events feel expressive and vibrant while maintaing the warmth of the home cooking feel.
MsSauce hopes her journey shows other women, especially Black women, that entrepreneurship can look however they want it to look. She talks honestly about wishing she had believed in herself sooner. These days, she creates without questioning whether something “fits.” Cooking, baking, candle making, writing, chocolate dipping, tropical punch crafting, and teaching classes all exist together because she no longer sees creativity as something that has to stay in one category.
Recently, that mindset pushed her toward another milestone: applying for her first business grant. Regardless of the outcome, simply stepping into that space represented growth and confidence. For MsSauce, entrepreneurship is built on faith just as much as preparation. Her outlook remains rooted in optimism, integrity, and discipline.
The influence of MsSauce’s mother remains central to that perspective. Watching her mother navigate life with resilience, style, and determination became a blueprint for how she now carries herself both personally and professionally. Her admiration continues to shape how she moves through business, family, and community today.
MsSauce Plates has grown into something much deeper than catering. It reflects heritage, sacrifice, womanhood, and belief in what can happen when creativity is matched with a relentless work ethic. In many ways, the food has become a reflection of her life and the experiences that shaped her.
